If walls could only talk. While there’s no doubt the banquet halls at St. Anthony’s in Little Italy have witnessed some interesting sights and lots of excitement through the years, imagine how they’d describe the action at LiveWorkPlay’s charity auction, held there last Friday.

At times it seemed like two banquet halls were hardly enough to contain the excitement and energy of the 300-or-so supporters and members of the organization turning out for the event, the twelfth annual.

The charity event, dubbed Recipe for Success, started out with a silent auction of some 100-odd items – a seemingly endless variety of gift certificates at major restaurants around town, artwork, gift baskets, fitness club memberships and more. A live auction, hosted by BOB FM morning host Sandy Sharkey and Derick Fage of Rogers TV, followed. Coffee, Timbits and a chat with Mayor Jim Watson, who was in attendance, was auctioned off twice instead of once as arranged, for $225 to each bidder, and lunch with Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi, who also attended went for $250. The audience enjoyed a few laughs when Sandy Sharkey attempted bidding on travel for two behind co-host Fage’s back, who didn’t clue in where the bidding was coming from. By the end of the evening, just over $40,000 net was raised.

Recipe for Success 2011 gets an Exciting New Location

For the first time ever, LiveWorkPlay will be holding their annual charity auction Recipe for Success at St-Anthony’s Banquet Hall and Convention Centre in Ottawa (see map). Guests will experience new freedom of movement with more than twice the square footage of any previous events.

Thinking about coming to this year’s auction? The Ottawa community has come through for us yet again with incredible donations from trips to appliances to everything in between.
